A U T U M N  S T Y L E  W I T H  B A R O S S A  S T Y L I N G  +  E V E N T S

Autumn is multi coloured beauty at it’s best and this is the inspiration I drew on when putting together an inspirational Autumn tablescape. I sourced the florals from Viva the Flower Store and selected a beautiful range of blooms and foilage; magnolia, cymbidium orchid, after dark foliage, red leucadendron and monbretia berry. I used the flowers to create a full and textural table runner with an arrangement of red leucadendron and magnolia leaf in a deep green vase. The effect is rich and inviting, setting the scene for an Autumn feast. A successful tablescape not only looks the part but it creates an ambience that makes you want to sit down and enjoy whatever is being put in front of you. This style incorporated Autumn colours, some seasonal figs on the table and most importantly, texture and contrast including velvet and natural textiles. The gold cutlery gave it a hint of warmth and elegance synonymous with the season.

In Autumn, the morning and nights are cooler and the trees are starting to change colour. It’s the perfect time to have your friends and family around for an Autumn feast. We know the food will be amazing, but how do you make this feast LOOK divine? Below I’ve shared 5 tips to guide you in creating your very own perfect Autumn Tablescape:

– incorporate the ever changing colours of the season – this will be your palette

– always use fresh flowers on the table

– add in some texture

– use quality linen napkins

– keep it simple, stick to one theme – try not to over do it

I regularly remind myself of just how very lucky I am to capture so many beautiful weddings. Sharing in these moments with my couples and being entrusted to capture them is an honour I do not take for granted. After months of planning and preparation it makes me smile when a couple’s wedding day arrives. I get a glimpse of them in their finery before everyone else, witness them making promises to each other from a privileged vantage point and am able to watch them revel in spending time with their loved ones from near and far.

Tonight, I’m sharing a few favourite images from S and L’s wedding by the beach. These two are the most genuine, humble and lovely people you’ll meet in life and it was my pleasure to work alongside them to photograph their wedding.

Every wedding is unique, special and gorgeous with it’s own tale to tell at the end of it. This is no truer than S and L’s Spring beach wedding. The wild and woolly beach weather meant that we had to think on our feet and alter our session locations a little to cater to the elements. We totally worked with what we were given; using the wind to create epic veil moments, to let dresses flow free and as the little leaks of sunlight came out from behind the storm clouds we were at the ready to make the most of them throughout the shots also.

No matter what Mother Nature throws at you for your wedding day – rain hail or shine – run with it and don’t get discouraged, a positive attitude is key! The results can be sublime and your photos will be like no others!

A chat about what they love to do as a couple lead us to the iconic Capri Theatre in Goodwood which we decided would provide the perfect setting for these lovebirds who love to catch a flick together in their spare time. The rich moody tones of the theatre and the inclusion of some sweet props and a gorgeous bouquet by Flower Delights – Gawler Barossa Florist personalised the session and help knit the whole beautiful story together.

A well planned and thoughtful engagement session can be beneficial to a couple in many ways. Below I’ve listed my top 5 reasons as to why you should definitely consider one!

1.  A session prior to your wedding day is a wonderful opportunity to spend some quality time with your chosen wedding photographer. They will be able to get to know you, how you are in front of the camera, what is personally flattering and most importantly you will get to know THEM!

2.  Engagement sessions are also a perfect way to put your hair and makeup to the test. By scheduling your trial for the same day you’ll know exactly how your makeup will hold up and you’ll also have a visual representation of how it will look in camera and your edited photos so there are no surprises down the track.

3. Professional photos can be creatively incorporated into ‘save the date’ cards and many other printed items for your wedding which creates a unique and personal touch that only your wedding will have!

4. In my experience couples who have an engagement session are more comfortable and relaxed on their wedding day. They know exactly how the process works, have built all important trust and have a greater confidence in their photographer. The less stress you are under on the most important day of your life has to be a huge bonus right?

5. Engagement sessions are FUN! Seriously guys, the sky is the limit and you can get as creative as you (and your photographer!) dare to dream. Think about what you love to do together and use that as a springboard to capturing a truly amazing experience on your journey to becoming Mr and Mrs.

Tonight, on the blog I’m taking a little journey back to a glorious Summer evening and a memorable event that I photographed in late January.

When Dan asked me to capture his ‘Feels Like Home’ gig at Maggie Beer’s  it was an immediate acceptance from me – such an honour! Dan is dear old school friend of mine and I’ve always watched him in awe from afar. Dan’s incredible career on the stage has taken him from Adelaide to London (and places in between!), where he has just finished playing the role of Jean Valjean in legendary musical Les Miserables in London’s West End.

The event truly was a perfect combination of fantastic food, wine and song. Maggie Beer was so lovely gracious and welcomed the guests personally.

As the sun set over the water, Dan took us on a memorable and honest journey of his life and experiences through song and that impeccable voice!

Anytime that I get the a chance to be creative, think big and push myself and my skills to the limit my soul literally soars!

Let’s rewind to October last year, remember that week of shocking, stormy, once in a lifetime weather? Yep! I sure do! That’s because that’s when the UNEARTHED photo shoot was scheduled to take place. Unfortunately, it had to be cancelled, then rescheduled! Months of hard work, co-ordination and preparation completely out the window. Fast forward a couple of weeks and a few more challenges in between for good measure and we were presented with another rainy, albeit slightly better day. What to do? Get on with it is what…get on and do our best despite the odds.

I’m proud to say that our collective best got us into the fabulous and coveted WHITE magazine blog and most importantly formed a bond between like-minded creatives that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

On my blog I wanted to share not only the standout images from the shoot but also the little snippets in between, the preparations, the vendor’s smiles doing what they love, the crew, the uniforms we had made! – all the dedicated behind the scenes moments. This is my tribute and personal thanks to the entire creative collective involved in UNEARTHED. In particular, I want to take a moment to acknowledge my fave business partner, supporter and insanely talented friend – Chelsea from Barossa Styling + Events. Together we dreamed this shoot up, together we worked our hearts out for months and together we made it all happen!

As far as I’m concerned, Valentine’s is as sweet a day as any to celebrate L O V E. A hug, a kiss, a love note, a bunch of blooms, a heartfelt pressie, a romantic picnic lunch – why not? In addition to spreading the love year round, V-Day can be an extra special day to spoil and thank the one that makes your heart sing.

With that in mind, my dear friend Chelsea from Barossa Styling + Events set out to create a loved up Valentine’s Day shoot based around the concept of a super romantic picnic bursting with sugary goodness, pretty blooms, balloons and more.

Welcome to 2017 everyone! I hope the silly season didn’t get you too bad and that the New Year is off to an awesome start. I have lots of exciting shoots and projects in the works as I write this blog which I cannot wait to share with you. One of my business goals this year is to interact with all of you a lot more via the blog – offering not only a glimpse into what I’m working on but also to provide useful information for you. I’ll be covering everything from tips for Bride’s, preparing for successful family sessions and lots more. I’d like my blog to not only provide visual inspiration  but to be a valuable resource and reference point for my current and future clients.

For my first blog of 2017 I am sharing a beautiful family session which was shot at the end of November 2016. A bit of the backstory on this one! I first met Eliza when she modelled for a Bridal editorial shoot at Kingsford Estate in 2015 – this lady is gorgeous inside and out. Fast forward to 2016 and I was thrilled when she asked me to photograph her beautiful family of 4, including her twin baby girls. I am so lucky!

The location in full and gorgeous bloom, the soft early morning light, the hand-made baby dresses made by Eliza all made for a truly magical shoot.

Christmas Eve! I thought now might be the perfect time to share a few more images from ‘A Stylish Little Christmas’ – a creative concept brought to life by Chelsea from Barossa Styling and Events and shot on location at the beautiful home of Amanda from Amanda B Art. With the help of some other creatives, the interior and exterior styling provided a fresh alternative for festive decorating.

Monochrome invitations featuring watercolour florals, lined kraft envelopes and gift tags by Bluebelle Studio.

Behind the scenes styling, this lady knows her stuff and I love that she always poses just right for the photos! Look at beautiful Mish the lab – what a babe she was and the perfect model on the day.

Poolside Christmas table inspiration with gorgeous florals in matte black vases and frame by Bethany at VIVA the Flowerstore. The beauty of this style is that many of these pieces are versatile and can be used year round, they don’t need to hide away in your cupboard for 11 months of the year!

Some close ups of the festive table, featuring hand lettered place cards by Barossa Styling & Events and stunning black cutlery from Modern Party Hire. The tablecloth and napkins are 100% linen which gives a beautifully organic look to the table as well as feeling super luxurious for your guests.

After Christmas lunch it’s time to relax poolside with a vino (or two!).

Christmas stationery and wrapping inspiration. I know I’ll be up to the wee hours tonight getting all of those last minute gifts wrapped!

Although it’s Summer in Australia at Christmas we can dream right…simple seasonal greenery and white pillar candles are all that’s needed to bring this area to life.

The concept for the shoot was the brainchild of the ladies at Barossa Style Bar which featured a beautifully feminine and relaxed bridal look. They styled their model Tiarn with a loose braided up-do and fresh, warm Summery makeup featuring a pink ombre lip.

A sweet garden posie of daisies and lisianthus featuring shades of pinks and a hint of green was created with love by Flower Delights – Gawler Barossa Florist. Baby pink mini carnations were woven through the side of Tiarn’s braid showing how amazing simple Bridal styles can really be.

Shooting amongst the olive grove at the bottom of the property in the middle of Summer was hot work and always going to be a challenge with lighting but I’m happy with the shots and shaded areas that we were able to make use of! Muted colours and tones are my favourite so I was in my element.

These shots were taken toward the last stages of the shoot and Tiarn is still flawless! The talented duo from Barossa Style Bar are pro’s in applying Bridal makeup that not only looks the part – but holds up no matter what the weather conditions! I cannot stress enough how important it is to engage a skilled makeup artist who knows how to apply for both beauty, longevity and photography.

Sitting lakeside on the deck just outside of the The Farm – Barossa Function Centre. This little picnic set up was styled by Rachele from Barossa Style Bar featuring a signature wooden canopy stand swathed in flowers by Minty Mary Pea. The gorgeous wooden slab platters can be hired from stylist extraordinaire Chelsea from Barossa Styling & Events.

Such a beautifully unique way to showcase flower arrangements in brass lampshades – awesome styling and floral work by Minty Mary Pea.  I’m loving the little bottled greenery by VIVA the Flowerstore Angaston – apothecary vases and vessels are always a winner for me!

Tania is also a very talented makeup artist who is highly sought after particularly for weddings. With this in mind, Tania was styled in a relaxed and natural Bridal look using neutral colours tones which worked perfectly with our backdrop.

Commercial lifestyle photography is something I’m very passionate about as a photographer and seems to be increasing in popularity of recent times. I think it’s so important to distinguish yourself and your business through quality and thoughtful imagery which captures the essence of your brand and also compels your target audience to engage with your products and services.
